About DD 149
Military Service During the Continuation of Active Duty Service Members of the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy are entitled to reenlist. In these cases, their military service will be counted for purposes of the military record check. Active Duty For active duty service members (Adm. or Adm., in the Navy and Marines) a DD-214 is required. A DD-214 is an administrative form in which officers in the Marine Corps must provide the following information to the military department that discharged them: dates and places at which they served. citations or disciplinary actions taken against them discharge reason Discharge date For Active Duty Members of the United States Army and United States Air Force, the DD-214 does not need to be mailed, as the DD-214 will also contain a letter from the appropriate service record center. The DD-214 provides basic information that is required by the military record centers to process the discharge of an officer or enlisted member. In cases wherein an officer or enlisted member was discharged as a civilian, the DD-214 will have an Air Force number associated with it. Any military service listed with an Air Force Airman number will be accepted when combined with information from the DD-214 or another official document. All records of a discharge of an officer, enlisted member, or warrant officer must be included in one consolidated and complete DD-214 or a letter from the appropriate military department verifying the discharge, in order for discharge to be considered in accordance with the Uniformed Services Social Security Act. Upon request, the appropriate military department will, in the case of members of the Marine Corps, prepare the DD-215 (service history) and request that a copy of that be forwarded to the appropriate board. An official letter from the Department of Defense will be required to authorize the Department of the Navy to obtain and accept a DD-215 which is required for discharge through the Department of Defense. The Marine Corps DD-214 is processed by the Marine Corps Personnel Office. Form 15A (Military Discharge) An application must be filed for corrections of military records. The form must contain the information listed below. The applicant must also submit Form DD-214, or a letter from the appropriate military department indicating the discharge and the amount of time the officer or enlisted member was in service and how long the individual served. The service member must provide their full dates of service for each separation but must indicate any previous separations as well. The individual must also provide the date of separation in the same manner.
